URBAN

What is Urban?

The word “Urban” is an adjective. The Collins Dictionary defines the word Urban as being either from or related to a city. Urban is all around the world.

The photos presented are from the city of London. Urban is represented in cities, with immense buildings, street art or temporary shops. The nature becomes infinitely small in comparison to these constructions and the sunlight is obscured by the artifices of these cities. These photographs accurately expressed the word urban. It is a fusion of buildings, contemporary art and the presence of wildlife in an urban area that symbolises the disproportion of cities.

The word urban therefore refers to different cities, cultures or populations. It also relates to contemporary art. It’s a current word. Nevertheless, this word was already used around 1610.

This activity demonstrates that observing around is a way to discern the meaning of particular words. A set of various elements can share a common sense when they are grouped together.
